Meet the Teachers

Shannon Powell - Director

Shannon - Totspot Preschool Chandler Hello, my name is Shannon Powell and I grew up in Mesa, Arizona. I received an Associate Degree in General Studies in 2003 and a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education in 2008. I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Business Administration. I hold a current teaching license in the State of Arizona and I have taught every grade from preschool to sixth as a substitute teacher.

I am passionate and enthusiastic about teaching children and I have gained a lot of teaching experience outside of the classroom as well, teaching my four children. I created TotSpot Preschool after researching many local preschools and programs for my own daughter. It is important to me that a preschool not only meet my high standards as an educator, but also meet my expectations as a mother....for an affordable price. (Founded TotSpot Preschool in 2008)

I am so excited to be a part of TotSpot Preschool! My name is Jeannie. I grew up in Logan Utah and still enjoy spending my summers there. Arizona has been my home for the past 16 years and I absolutely love this area. My husband and I have 3 beautiful children. I have been a stay at home mom for most of my “mom” life….. Prior to the “mom” life, I attended Utah State University and studied psychology and social work. I lived in Taiwan and worked as an English as a Second Language teacher for preschools, elementary, high schools and private schools. I also spent a year in the Philippines serving the underdeveloped areas, refugee camps and underprivileged schools. Foreign travel is a hobby that I hope to enjoy again someday.

I absolutely love working with children and have so much fun watching the students come through the doors every day with their big smiles. I couldn’t ask for a better environment to spend my working day. (Joined TotSpot Preschool July, 2010)

 Katie Myers - Teacher (Pre-K)

Hi! My name is Katie Myers. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania. It was there in 2001, at Lock Haven University, that I received my   Bachelor degree in Elementary Education. Shortly after receiving my degree, I moved to Jerusalem, Israel for 8 years. During my time there, I had the opportunity to volunteer on various occasions with programs for children. I also had the opportunity to experience an entirely different culture and way of life. In 2009 we moved back to America, and because of my husband's job, we found ourselves in Chandler, AZ. After being a stay-at-home mother of 2 kids, I decided it was time to get back into the classroom. I most recently worked at a small private elementary school in Mesa. It was fun but I needed something different, so here I am at TotSpot!

Ever since I can remember I have worked with children whether it be as a babysitter, as a teacher at a preschool every summer while going through college, as a volunteer, as a mother, or as an elementary school teacher. I am very excited to have joined the staff at Tot Spot Preschool. I look forward to having lots of learning adventures with your children! (Joined TotSpot Preschool August, 2011)

It was during this time that I discovered that I loved to teach, and I especially loved watching kids get excited about learning. I returned to college and graduated from Ottawa University with a degree in Elementary Education in 2005.

I am thrilled to be with your little ones at TotSpot Preschool. They are at such an important stage of life and this is a wonderful opportunity to build strong foundations for their future.   Hi, my name is Kristen Benson. I am so excited to be a Teacher at TotSpot Preschool! I grew up in Orange County, California. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University in 1995. I worked in the accounting field for a few years before staying home to raise my 3 daughters. I have helped teach each of them in a home-based preschool and have worked with children in my church for the past 12 years. I love to read, cook, decorate and spend time with my family.

I am so happy to be working with your children. When my youngest child started first grade, I realized I really missed the fun preschool ages. I believe preschool is such an important time in a child's life because it creates a love for learning that will hopefully carry on for the rest of their school years.
